Set up minimum and maximum length of stay restrictions

How to set minimum stay (Min LOS) and maximum stay (Max LOS) restrictions in rate plans, room rates, or via the inventory grid.

Where to update minimum and maximum length of stay restrictions

Where you update restrictions depends on your connected system:

  • If you have a PMS/RMS that syncs inventory restrictions to SiteMinder: Update minimum and maximum stay restrictions directly in your PMS/RMS — not in SiteMinder. Any manual changes made in the SiteMinder inventory grid will be overwritten by your connected system.

  • If you don't have a PMS/RMS, or it doesn't sync restrictions: Update min/max stay restrictions in your SiteMinder inventory grid (see steps below).

Note: Not all channels support receiving restrictions from your platform.

Not all channels support receiving restrictions from SiteMinder. If a channel does not support minimum and maximum length of stay restrictions:

  • Different channels support different restriction types - check what the channel or channel rate supports

  • Check if you can set up those restrictions directly in the channel's extranet

About minimum and maximum length of stay restrictions

Minimum length of stay (Min LOS) and Maximum length of stay (Max LOS) restrictions, often combined with discounted rates, help maximise occupancy and revenue during periods of high and low demand.

These restrictions may be configured differently across various channels - check with each channel directly what Min/Max Stay restrictions are supported.

  • Minimum length of stay (Min LOS): Sets the minimum number of nights guests must book starting from their check-in date

  • Maximum length of stay (Max LOS): Sets the maximum number of nights guests can book starting from their check-in date

  • Minimum stay through (Min Stay Through): Sets the minimum number of nights guests must stay when their booking passes through specific restricted dates

  • Maximum stay through (Max Stay Through): Sets the maximum number of nights guests can stay when their booking passes through specific restricted dates

Note: Not all channels support receiving min/max stay restrictions. For some channels you may need to manage length of stay restrictions via the channel extranet directly.

What is the difference between Min/Max LOS and Min/Max Stay Through?

Min/Max LOS restrictions apply based on the guest's arrival date. The guest must stay the minimum or maximum number of nights starting from their check-in date. For example, a Min Stay of 3 on Friday means guests arriving on Friday must stay at least 3 nights.

Min/Max Stay Through restrictions are applied when a booking passes through specific dates, regardless of the guest's arrival date. Any stay that includes the restricted dates must meet the minimum or maximum nights requirement.

⚠️ Not all channels support Stay Through. If the Use stay through setting is not visible in Distribution > Channel Settings > Advanced settings, that channel does not support Stay Through and the steps below will not apply.

If the channel supports Min/Max Stay Through restrictions, the setting will exist in Channel Settings to enable it:

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels.

  2. In the My channels tab, click the ellipsis button (three dots button) next to the channel's name > select Update channel settings.

  3. Under Advanced settings, set Use stay through to Yes.

  4. Click Save.

Once enabled, set your min/max stay restrictions in the inventory grid as usual. SiteMinder will push those values to the channel as Stay Through restrictions.

Set min/max stay restrictions in the inventory grid

Only follow these steps if you don't have a PMS/RMS syncing restrictions to SiteMinder. If you do have a connected PMS/RMS, update restrictions there instead — changes made here will be overwritten.

  1. Go to Distribution > Inventory.

  2. Find the room rate you want to update.

  3. Click on the cell in the Min Stay or Max Stay column for the specific date.

  4. Enter the new value then click Save.

Bulk update min/max stay restrictions

To update minimum and maximum stay restrictions across multiple dates, room rates, and channels:

  1. Go to Distribution > Inventory.

  2. Click the Bulk update button.

  3. In the Set drop-down menu, select Min stay or Max stay.

  4. In the To field, enter the new stay requirement value.

  5. Select your date range and days of the week.

  6. Select the room rates and channels to update.

  7. Click Save.

Set default min/max stay restrictions for new rate plans

⚠️ They won't apply to existing rate plans or dates already in the inventory grid. They will only apply to new rate plans and new dates.

  1. Go to Rooms and rates > Rate plans.

  2. Click Add a rate plan to create new.

  3. In the Restrictions and Inclusions section, set the Default minimum stay and Default maximum stay. Note: once restrictions are updated in the inventory grid (or updated via your PMS), these default rate plan restrictions will be overwritten.

  4. Click Save.

💡 If you edit these default settings on an existing rate plan, only new dates that appear in the inventory grid in future will reflect the change. To update min/max stay restrictions for existing dates, edit them directly in the inventory grid (or in your PMS, if it syncs restrictions to SiteMinder).
