About room types
Set up and manage your room types in Rooms and Rates > Room types.
Room types represent the categories of accommodation you sell. For example: hotel rooms, apartments, cabins, villas, dormitory rooms, holiday homes, and so on.
💡 Note: Availability is set at the room type level and applies to all associated room rates.
Room type details and settings also apply across all linked room rates.
Create a room type
To add/create a new room type in your SiteMinder platform:
Go to Rooms and rates > Room types.
Click Add room type.
Configure the settings (category, room name, and bed types, occupancy, features and media, etc.) for the room type.
💡 You'll need to create matching room types in your connected channels and systems (PMS/RMS/CRS).
Room type settings
General information
Room category — select from the drop-down, for example “Apartment” or “Double”. This is not shown to guests.
Room type name — select based on your chosen category, for example “Business Double Room”. Guests will see this name on supported channels. Translates automatically on your booking engine.
Internal room type name — add a code for internal reference, for example, use an acronym or code.
Description for guest — minimum 75 characters. Guests will see this description on your booking engine supported channels.
Number of rooms of this type — enter number of rooms of this type. This does not impact availability.
Occupancy settings
Maximum occupancy — total people allowed in this room type.
Maximum adults — maximum number of adults allowed.
Maximum children — maximum number of children allowed.
Maximum infants — maximum number of infants allowed.
💡 Note: Set age ranges for infants and children for your booking engine in Direct booking > Configuration > Guest display options > Occupancy age settings. For connected channels (OTAs), set these age ranges directly in their extranet or contact the channel.
Room features and amenities
Room size — dimensions of your room.
Bathroom — number of bathrooms (maximum ten).
Smoking policy — define whether smoking is permitted.
Room view — select applicable views (for example beach, city, pool).
Amenities and facilities — add features like TV, microwave, balcony, or air conditioning.
Bed type configuration — select bed types (for example single, king, sofa bed).
Add bedroom — for rooms with multiple separate bedrooms, add the bed types.
Media
Upload high-quality images for each room type. Your images will be synced to your booking engine and supported channels, such as the channels you connect to on Channels Plus.
Drag and drop files or click Assign from Media library to use existing images.
💡 Tip: High-quality photos can increase your chances of securing bookings. Include images that showcase the room's best features, size, views, and amenities. Recommended image dimensions: 2560px width and 600px height for optimal display.
⚠️ Note: Deleting an image from your platform removes it from supported channels that receive your media.
Update a room type
Change room settings such as features and room name at any time. To update/edit an existing room type:
Go to Rooms and rates > Room types.
Click the ellipsis button (three dots button) for the room type.
Select Edit room type.
Make your changes then click Save.
Delete a room type
To delete/remove a room type from your platform:
Go to Rooms and rates > Room types.
Click the ellipsis button (three dots button) for the room type you want to delete.
Select Delete room type.
Click Delete to confirm.
⚠️ Important before deleting a room type:
Deleting a room type is permanent and cannot be reversed.
All associated room rates and mapped channel rates will be deleted from your SiteMinder platform.
The room type and associated rates will not be automatically deleted from connected channels and systems (PMS/RMS/CRS). You will need to remove these room types manually from each system.
