How to add, modify, or delete an extra for your SiteMinder booking engine.

Important to know:

  • Add, modify, or delete an extra for your SiteMinder booking engine in Direct booking > Extras.

  • If you want to create an extra for your OTA channels, you may be able to do so via the channel’s extranet.

Benefits of extras for your booking engine

Extras are a great way to generate additional revenue with your direct bookings. Extras will be shown and available to guests when they book via your booking engine.

Extras can help shape and improve the guest’s experience, and build loyal relationships. Offer extras that add value and convenience to your guests’ stay. You have control over whether the extra is optional or mandatory, and you can assign the extra to specific room rates and dates.

You can offer extras for products or services that your property provides directly, or partner with local businesses. Partnerships with other businesses can be mutually beneficial: you offer your guests their services or products in exchange for them doing the same with their customers so that you both have the opportunity to increase revenue.

Examples of extras

Here are some examples of extras you could create:

  • Meals (breakfast, lunch, or dinner).

  • Late check-in or a late check-out.

  • Airport transfers.

  • A bottle of champagne, a bouquet of flowers, or a romantic tour to a nearby attraction for a "honeymoon special" rate plan.

  • Snacks and hampers.

  • Housekeeping.

  • Spa services such as massages.

  • Tours and activities, such as snorkelling or scuba diving trips.

Extras can be set up per booking, per person per night, per room, per room per night, or per person.

Create an extra for your booking engine

To create an extra for your booking engine:

  1. Go to Direct booking > Extras.

  2. Click on the Add extra button.

  3. Enter the extra’s information, including name, description, and price.

  4. Select the dates the extra will be available (any dates or select dates).

  5. Tick the room rates you want to assign the extra to.

  6. Upload or assign images of your extra. Guests are more likely to book an extra if they see an attractive image, to help them visualise what they are purchasing.

  7. Review the extra’s details, then click Save extra.

Note:

  • If your extra is Per booking, you can allow your guest to buy more than one of the extra (for example, if you have a per booking extra for a spa service).

  • You can change the order of which your extras will appear on your booking engine. To do this, go to Direct booking > Extras, click on the Reorder extras button, and drag and drop extras to change their order.
