Why is my booking engine showing a blank page or 404 error?
If your booking engine is showing a blank page or 404 error, this is usually caused by missing or incorrect configuration. Work through the checks below to identify and fix the issue.
Check your browser first
Before changing any settings, test the booking engine URL in:
An incognito or private browser window
A different browser or device
This rules out a local browser issue. If the page still does not load, continue with the checks below.
Check your property details
Go to Property settings > Property details and ensure all required fields are filled in:
Address
Phone
Website
Check your property description
Go to Property settings > Services and ensure the Description field is configured.
Check your e-mail contact fields
Go to Direct Booking > Configuration > Guest Communications and ensure these fields are populated:
Booking confirmation e-mail
Enquiry e-mail
Inventory alert e-mail
⚠️ Check the Booking confirmation e-mail field for a trailing comma after the last e-mail address. For example, name@example.com. A trailing comma causes the booking engine page to appear blank. To fix: Remove the comma, save your changes, then retest the URL.
Check your referral channels
Go to Direct Booking > Configuration > Guest Display Options > Guest details form.
Enable the Ask guest the question... checkbox to reveal the field.
Ensure the Referral channels field contains at least one entry.
Check your channel code
Your channel code must not contain special characters, spaces, or numbers only. Issues with channel codes can cause a 404 error, a blank page, or broken widgets. Update the channel code, then retest the URL.
💡 The channel code is the code that the hotelier uses to integrate the booking engine via widgets and links.
Widget or booking engine link errors
If you are using a booking engine widget or link on your website and you see one of the following errors, the channel code may not meet the required naming limitations and you will see an error:
"Incomplete response received from application"
"The page you were looking for cannot be found"
"404 Oh no! The page you are looking for does not exist."
An image that appears cut off (this is the top of an error message)
Check that your channel code follows the channel code naming limitations and update it if needed, then retest.
💡 If the error appears on your website but the booking engine URL loads correctly from your admin panel, the issue is with how the booking engine is implemented on your website, not with the booking engine itself. Contact your web developer to review the implementation.
