Configure occupancy settings for channels
Important: For most channels, occupancy and extra person charges must be set up directly in the channel's extranet. Only some channels (such as Airbnb) support receiving these settings from your platform.
Set up occupancy and extra person charges in the channel extranet (required for most channels)
For most channels, you must configure occupancy settings directly in each channel's extranet.
To set up in the channel extranet:
Log into the channel's extranet directly.
Create room types and rate plans, and configure occupancy settings and extra person charges.
Contact the channel's support team if you need help.
Settings to configure in the channel extranet:
Base and maximum occupancy limits
Extra person charge amounts (extra adult rate, extra child rate)
Child age policies
Single guest discount settings
Set up in your platform (for supported channels only)
Only some channels support receiving occupancy and extra person charges from your platform. If your channel supports this (such as Airbnb), you can manage these settings in your platform.
Set up in the room rate
Go to Rooms and rates > Rate plans.
Click the down arrow next to the rate plan to view associated room rates.
Click on the room rate you want to update and select Edit.
Update the Included occupancy, Maximum occupancy, Extra adult rate and Extra child rate fields.
Note: To calculate Extra adult rates correctly, ensure the Included occupancy matches the number of guests included in the base price.
Click Save.
Set up for a specific channel rate
To configure:
Go to Distribution > Channels.
Find the channel and click the ellipsis button (three dots button).
Select Edit room rates mapping which will take you to the Room rates mapping page.
Edit the channel rate and update occupancy settings and extra person fee fields (e.g. extra guest rate/extra adult rate/extra child rate).
Note: To calculate Extra adult rates correctly, ensure the Included occupancy matches the number of guests included in the base price.
Click Save.
⚠️ Remember: For most channels, you must configure these settings directly in the channel's extranet.
Fix single guest pricing issues
If single guest pricing appears wrong on channels, this usually indicates an occupancy configuration mismatch.
Common single guest pricing problems:
Single guest discount not configured, so channel shows full price for one guest.
Occupancy model mismatch where your platform uses OBP but channel expects PDP.
Base occupancy set incorrectly, so channel calculates pricing from wrong starting point.
Single rate setting conflicts where rate is marked as single-only but configured for multiple guests.
To fix single guest pricing issues:
Go to Distribution > Channels.
Click the ellipsis button (three dots) then click Edit room rates mapping.
Click on the affected channel rate.
Click Configure.
Review these settings: included/base occupancy, maximum occupancy, single guest discount (if available), and single rate only setting.
Match your channel's pricing model.
Best practice for occupancy configuration: Create one room type with the appropriate maximum occupancy rather than creating separate room rates for different occupancies (like single, double, and triple rooms). Creating separate rates for each occupancy creates multiple inventory entries for the same room type and can cause overbookings.
