Troubleshoot stop sell issues

If you need to close rooms but guests are still able to book, or if you need to open rooms but your stop sells keep reappearing after you remove them, follow the below troubleshooting steps.

⚠️ Do you have a PMS, RMS, or CRS connected?

If you have a property management system (PMS), revenue management system (RMS), or central reservation system (CRS) that sends inventory or stop sells to SiteMinder:

  • Do not apply or remove stop sells manually in SiteMinder — make all changes in your connected system.

  • This is the most common reason stop sells "keep coming back" — your connected system might be overwriting manual changes.

  • After updating your PMS/RMS/CRS, push or resync to SiteMinder.

If you don't have a connected system, or your integration doesn't send stop sells to SiteMinder, continue with the checks below.

Quick check: Verify channel and rates are enabled and mapped

⚠️ This is the most common cause of inventory not syncing or channels appearing closed.

If a channel is disabled or rates are unmapped, the channel won't receive updates and may show as closed or display incorrect inventory.

Check that the channel is enabled:

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels.

  2. Verify your channel status shows shows green Enabled status (not Disabled).

  3. If disabled, enable the channel in Channel settings.

Disabled channels won't receive any updates.

Check your rate mapping:

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels.

  2. Click the ellipsis button (...) next to the channel name and select Edit room rates mapping.

  3. Check all rates show as mapped (not "Unmapped").

  4. Click each channel rate and select Configure.

  5. Make sure Start updating channel is set to Yes.

Check timing — stop sells need time to sync

Wait 15–30 minutes after applying the stop sell. Different channels sync at different speeds, also depending on the size of the update.

Check your stop sell is set correctly

Check your inventory grid:

  1. Go to Distribution > Inventory.

  2. Select Stop sell from the dropdown above the calendar.

  3. Confirm the stop sell shows as applied for the correct dates and rates.

When viewing stop sells in the inventory grid:

  • Checkboxes = manageable in SiteMinder

  • Hyphens (-) = must be managed directly in the channel's extranet

💡 Stop sells must be applied to each rate individually. Each room rate (Standard, Non-refundable, Weekly, etc.) needs the stop sell applied separately. All rates share the same availability, but restrictions like stop sell are rate-specific.

Check for disabled rates

  1. Go to Distribution > Channels > [Channel Name] > Edit room rates mapping.

  2. Look for any rates showing "disabled" status (red or yellow warnings).

  3. Fix any rate errors and re-enable disabled rates.

Disabled rates won't receive stop sell updates.

Check for mapping issues

  1. Go to the channel's Room rates mapping page.

  2. Filter by Unmapped rates.

  3. Map any unmapped rates.

Unmapped rates won't receive updates.

Check channel extranet for overriding settings

  1. Log into the channel's extranet.

  2. Look for any settings set directly by the channel that might override your stop sell.

💡 For Expedia: Expedia uses two types of stop sells: room-level (managed only in Expedia Partner Central) and rate-level (managed in SiteMinder). If stop sells aren't syncing or can't be removed, a room-level stop sell may have been applied directly in Expedia Partner Central. These appear as red boxes with "X" marks on the "Availability" row in Expedia Partner Central and must be removed there.

Check Yield Rules for automatic closure or selling limit rules

If rooms are closing or stop sells are appearing and you didn't set them manually, automatic yield rules may be restricting inventory.

Go to Distribution > Yield rules to review active rules.
