MULTI FACTOR AUTHENTICATION (MFA)

The incorporation of multi-factor authentication (MFA) into the GDS by SiteMinder login process combines your username and password, with a second authentication method.

What is multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA), also known as 2-factor, and multi-factor authentication provides a second layer of security as a way of 'double- checking' users are who they claim to be when logging in. When you log in to an online account with a username and password, that counts as a single-factor authentication of your identity.

With MFA, you need to provide two things before you can access your account:

  1. Your username and password.

  2. Another verification such as a one-time password (OTP) which is sent via your chosen method.

How do I benefit from multi-factor authentication?

Cyber-crime is at an all-time high and businesses with weak or poorly-secured passwords are especially vulnerable. It takes a long time to build a reputation and customer trust. Multi-factor authentication protects these invaluable assets by securing your customer and business data.

By requiring multiple channels of authentication, you can prevent attackers from using compromised accounts to gain access to customer data or financial information.

What do I need to do?

  • Enter your Password

  • Click Sign In

Verification via mobile phone (SMS, call, Duo Mobile App)

Users have the option to use their mobile phone as a second authentication method. There are four alternative options (push notification, SMS code, call, passcode to Duo Mobile App).

Verification via landline

Users can also choose a landline phone as their second authentication method. As per the video, there is the option of providing an extension for any numbers which are shared. There is also a 10 second delay before the code is communicated on the call (to allow for answering machine recordings).

Hardware Token

If a user absolutely cannot use either a mobile or landline option for MFA, please contact GDS by SiteMinder to enquire about the possibility of purchasing a hardware token. Note: tokens will incur shipping charges.

Will I need to complete MFA every time I log in?

No. During log in, you have the option to select 'remember me', which will allow 24 hours of access without having to re-authenticate.

Remember me for 24hrs

What if I get prompted for MFA and I did not request it?

If you receive an authentication request that you did not initiate please deny the request and contact us to reset your GDS by SiteMinder extranet password.

Note: if you are using the DUO App, our support team do not have the ability to access or update any information that you have loaded. The support team can only assist with resetting the extranet password.
