💡 Important to know:

  • You must have a Google Analytics 4 account in order to integrate it with your Booking Engine.

  • Our support team can only guide you through the steps done on our side; not Google’s.

Why do I need to test the Google Analytics 4 integration?

Testing your Booking Engine’s integration with Google Analytics 4 will confirm if you have correctly Set up Google Analytics 4 to track your Booking Engine’s conversion.

Test your Booking Engine’s integration with Google Analytics 4

First, follow Google’s Realtime report instructions, then load your website or the Booking Engine — you should see some activity immediately, such as statistics showing Users per minute.

Step 1: make a test booking

Go to your Booking Engine and make a test booking as if you were a guest. Once a booking has been made, Google Analytics 4 may take up to 24 hours to collect the necessary data and display it on your dashboard.

Step 2: check your Google Analytics 4 dashboard

  1. Log in to your Google Analytics 4 account at least 24 hours after the test booking was made.

  2. Go to Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels.

  3. Click on Referral to verify the URL.

Step 3: follow Google Analytics 4’s instructions

Follow the steps outlined in Google’s article Confirm that you're collecting data to ensure that everything is working correctly.

Test cross-domain tracking

Cross-domain tracking must be functioning correctly in order for Google Analytics 4 to track the guest’s journey from your property’s website to the Booking Engine as a single session instead of a referral.

To set up cross-domain tracking, follow the ‘Advanced post-integration setup’ guide in article Set up Google Analytics 4 to track your Booking Engine’s conversion.

Once set up, test that cross-domain tracking is working correctly by following the steps below.

  1. On your property’s website, open any page containing a button, link or form leading to your Booking Engine — you should have previously configured its domain for cross-domain measurement in Google Analytics 4.

  2. To navigate to the destination domain, click on the button, link or fill in and submit the form.

  3. Verify that the URL in the destination domain contains the linker parameter ‘_gl’ — for example, https://book-directonline.com/properties/YourPropertyl?_gl=
