Set up and manage taxes for Direct booking

Tax settings in Payments > Taxes only apply to your SiteMinder booking engine (Direct booking), not your connected channels. Taxes for channels need to be set up directly with each channel.

About taxes for your booking engine

Set up taxes for your booking engine to comply with local tax laws and regulations.

Your direct booking guests will see tax information on:

  • The page where guests are asked to confirm their reservation

  • The reservation confirmation e-mail

  • The booking confirmation page

  • The rate displayed (if tax settings are inclusive)

Note: Admin users can update taxes when Payments is enabled.

Add a new tax

To add a new tax for Direct booking:

  1. Go to Payments > Taxes.

  2. Click Add tax.

  3. Enter a name for the tax.

  4. Choose either percentage or fixed amount.

  5. For percentage tax, enter the percentage and select what to apply it to: All rooms and extras, All rooms, or Extras only.

  6. For fixed amount tax, select when to apply it (per booking, per night, per person, etc) and enter the amount.

  7. Click Save.

Tax settings

There are two important tax settings that affect how rates display for Direct booking:

Show rates including tax and service charge on the direct booking engine

When you select this option:

  • Guests will see the final price including all taxes before checking out on your booking engine

  • This helps avoid surprising guests with additional fees at checkout

  • If not selected, guests will first see rates without taxes, then see taxes added at checkout

Include tax and service charges on Inventory grid rates for the booking engine

When you select this option:

  • Rates in your inventory grid will display with taxes included

  • The rates you set will be the final price guests see, including all taxes and fees

  • This helps align what you see in your inventory with what guests see when booking

When this option is disabled:

  • Rates in your inventory grid will display without taxes

  • The rates you set will be the base price, and taxes will be added separately

  • Guests will pay the final price (base rate plus taxes) when they book

Edit a tax

  1. Go to Payments > Taxes.

  2. Click on the pencil (edit) icon on an existing tax.

  3. Select Edit tax.

  4. Make your changes.

  5. Click Save.

Delete a tax

  1. Go to Payments > Taxes.

  2. Click on the pencil (edit) icon on an existing tax.

  3. Select Delete tax.

  4. Click Delete to confirm.
