About the ‘Import room types’ tool

The Import room types tool saves you time by enabling you to create room types in bulk through a .csv file.

Download and fill out this .csv file, then upload it using the Import room types tool.

How to fill out the room types import file

The room types import file must be in .csv format, and Columns A to F must contain the following details in this order:

  • Column A: Room type name — the room type names, all of which must be unique. Any room types that were imported with identical names will be renamed using an alphabetical system — for example, ‘Double room-a’, ‘Double room-b’.

  • Column B: Description — the room descriptions shown to guests on your booking engine.

  • Column C: Max occupancy — the maximum number of people who can stay in a room type (maximum value: 9,999).

  • Column D: Max adult — the maximum number of adults allowed to stay in a room type (maximum value: 9,999). The maximum number of adults must be less than the maximum room occupancy.

  • Column E: Max child — the maximum number of children allowed to stay in a room type (maximum value: 9,999). The maximum number of children must be less than the maximum room occupancy.

  • Column F: Max infant — the maximum number of babies who can stay in a room type (maximum value: 9,999). This figure does not count towards the maximum number of occupants. The number of babies must be less than the maximum room occupancy.

The first row must contain the column names. Enter the room type details from the second row onwards.

Note:

  • In order for the room types file to be uploaded successfully, at least one of the following columns must contain data: Column A, Column B.

  • Columns B to F are optional.

  • You must follow the specific column order described above or your data will be out of order and imported incorrectly.

  • If you add extra columns in between the mandatory columns, they will be ignored by the system.

  • The occupancy columns — Max occupancy, Max adult, Max child, Max infant — must contain numbers, not letters.

How to import room types

You can import room types in bulk via a .csv file using the Import room types tool. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Rooms and rates > Room types.

  2. Click on the ellipsis button (...) at the top right corner of the page, then from the Actions menu, click Import room types.

  3. Click on the Upload room types button and select your .csv file. The file will be uploaded and its information will be added to an editable grid on the page.

  4. Check that all of the information is correct, then click on Import.

Once you have completed the import, any valid room types will be removed from the editable grid and added to your SiteMinder platform.

Note:

  • You can select or deselect all room types at once by checking or unchecking the checkbox next to the Name column.

  • If some of your room types were not imported and are still on the grid, it may be because they have invalid data — to fix this, review the details entered in the room types import file, and try importing again.

Edit room types after importing

Once your room types have been imported, you can edit the room type details as needed. You can then also add room features and amenities, and upload and assign images.
